Dehui is a county-level city under Changchun in Jilin Province, north of the provincial capital. It lies on the flat Songliao plain, one of the main grain-growing regions in northeast China. On the map the town is a compact, orderly grid of streets, clearly separated from the huge open fields around it.
The surrounding farmland is laid out in long, straight strips and rectangles, crossed by roads and irrigation lines that run for many kilometres without a bend. Villages appear as small clusters spaced across this pattern. The railway and main roads connecting Dehui to Changchun and the north form the strongest lines leaving town.
