Ko e mape
Diéma lies in the Kayes Region of western Mali and is the administrative seat of the cercle that carries its name. It sits in the Sahel, where farmland gives way to thinner grazing country to the north. On a map the town is a compact cluster of blocks with plenty of open ground around it. The main roads leave toward the horizon almost in straight lines.
The town grew along the road corridor that connects Bamako with the far west of Mali, and that route still shapes the plan. A main axis runs through it, and the residential quarters sit on either side of it in loose rectangles. The pattern thins out quickly at the edges, and beyond them are fields and seasonal watercourses.
A Diéma map poster is largely about restraint. There are only a few lines, much of the sheet is empty, and the settlement appears as a small, clear mark in a large landscape. For people from the region, including many who have moved abroad, it keeps a clear record of the place where the roads meet.

The residential blocks are laid out in broad, uneven rectangles with wide spaces between them. From above they look more like a field pattern than a dense urban core.
Just outside town the street network fades into tracks and open land. On the poster this leaves a pale border that isolates the settlement and gives it a strong silhouette.

Ko e ha Diéma
Small Sahelian towns rarely appear on printed wall maps, which makes one of Diéma more personal: it is about family, origin and a specific junction on the road west. It suits a home in Bamako, Paris or anywhere else the diaspora has settled.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line to include a family name or a date. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The warm Sand style fits the dry landscape.
