Dinuba is a city in Tulare County, California, in the southern San Joaquin Valley between Fresno and Visalia. The valley floor here is almost perfectly flat, and the map reflects it: a regular grid of streets in the town and, around it, straight country roads laid out on the square-mile survey system.
The town grew with the railway and agriculture in the late nineteenth century, and farming still defines the landscape. Vineyards, orchards and fields surround the city in rectangular blocks, so the pattern of the farmland continues the geometry of the streets. Irrigation canals run through the countryside as thin lines.
