Dormentes is a municipality in western Pernambuco, deep in Brazil's semi-arid sertão. The town is compact, laid out in a simple grid of streets around a central square, and from above it appears as a small, clear shape surrounded by wide open land. A few roads lead out toward neighbouring towns, cutting straight lines through the landscape.
The surrounding vegetation is caatinga, the dry scrubland typical of north-eastern Brazil, and the land is used for goat and cattle raising and small farms.
