Dublin sits on the northwestern edge of the Columbus metropolitan area in central Ohio. The Scioto River runs north to south through the middle of the city, in a valley lined with trees. Historic Dublin, the small original village, sits on the west bank with a short grid of old streets. Around it, curving residential subdivisions, office campuses and highway interchanges spread out over what was once farmland.
The city is known for the Memorial Tournament, a PGA Tour event held each year at Muirfield Village Golf Club, designed by Jack Nicklaus. The Dublin Irish Festival is one of the largest of its kind in the United States. Its Field of Corn installation, rows of oversized concrete ears of corn, is a much-photographed piece of public art.
A Dublin map poster shows a classic American suburban plan with a clear central feature. The Scioto divides the frame, the Dublin Link pedestrian bridge now connects the old village to the Bridge Park district across the water, and the looping cul-de-sacs and fairways around them produce a soft, flowing pattern that is very different from a city grid.
The river and its wooded banks cut through the centre of the city, creating the strongest natural line on the map.
A small grid of older streets on the west bank, now linked by a pedestrian suspension bridge to the Bridge Park district opposite.
The golf club and its surrounding neighbourhood in the north of the city, where fairways and curved streets form a distinctive pattern.

Dublin, Ohio, suits anyone who has settled into its neighbourhoods, followed the Memorial Tournament or spent a summer weekend at the Irish Festival. The flowing lines of its streets and fairways make an unexpectedly elegant drawing.
