Duiven lies in the Liemers region of Gelderland, between Arnhem and Zevenaar. Its map is shaped by infrastructure. The A12 motorway runs along one side, the railway towards Germany along another, and the town fills the space between and beyond them. The old village centre is small, and most of Duiven consists of post-war neighbourhoods laid out in planned, carefully separated blocks.
Those neighbourhoods have the characteristic Dutch pattern: curving residential streets, short cul-de-sacs, cycle paths and green strips threaded between houses. Business parks along the motorway show up as larger, coarser blocks. Outside the town the land opens into flat fields divided by straight ditches, with the villages of Groessen and Loo nearby, and the Rhine not far to the south.
