Edmonds lies on the eastern shore of Puget Sound, north of Seattle in Snohomish County. The shoreline runs almost straight from north to south here, so the map gets a clean vertical edge of water. Behind it, the town climbs uphill in a mix of gridded blocks and curving residential streets that follow the terrain.
The ferry to Kingston leaves from the downtown waterfront, and its route makes the Sound part of everyday life in Edmonds. Next to the terminal are a marina with long breakwaters, beach parks, and an underwater park popular with divers.
