Planned town core
The central streets follow a straightforward grid inherited from the colonial-era town. This gives the map a clear, orderly centre that stands out against its open surroundings.

Ko e mape
El Bayadh stands at well over a thousand metres on the high plateaus of western Algeria, where the steppe meets the ranges of the Saharan Atlas. Seen from above, the town is a compact arrangement of streets on open, sparsely vegetated ground. Mountain ridges and dry watercourses shape the landscape around it.
Under French rule the town was known as Géryville, and its older core still reflects a planned layout of straight streets and rectangular blocks. Later neighbourhoods have spread outward along the main roads, with looser patterns of housing at the edges. An El Bayadh map poster shows this progression clearly, from an ordered centre to a scattered periphery.
The surrounding region is associated with pastoral life on the steppe and with the Ouled Sidi Cheikh, a religious and tribal confederation important in the history of Algeria's southwest. On a monochrome map, the town's setting becomes the main subject: a small, deliberate street plan with wide, quiet space and the lines of distant hills all around it.
The central streets follow a straightforward grid inherited from the colonial-era town. This gives the map a clear, orderly centre that stands out against its open surroundings.
Around the built-up area, dry riverbeds and faint tracks cross the high plateau, adding sparse, meandering lines to otherwise empty ground at the edges of the poster.
Ridges of the Saharan Atlas rise nearby, and roads bend to follow the valleys between them. They hint at the mountainous country that surrounds the town.

Ko e ha El Bayadh
El Bayadh is a place people carry with them long after leaving: the cold highland winters, the steppe light, the family house on a particular street. A map of the town brings that geography into a home in a restrained, graphic form.
Set your own title, add a date or a family name as the subtitle, adjust the coordinates line, and choose among Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Digital HD files cost $9, and printed posters ship on matte paper with an optional frame.
