Falāvarjān lies in Isfahan province, a short distance southwest of the provincial capital, on the plain watered by the Zayandeh Rud. From above, the town is a compact grid of streets surrounded by an intricate patchwork of gardens and fields. The river, which runs toward Isfahan, crosses the area in a broad, gently curving bed.
The whole landscape here depends on irrigation, and the map shows it clearly. Narrow plots, walled orchards and water channels create a dense, fine-grained pattern around the town.
