Ko e mape
Franco da Rocha lies on the northern fringe of the São Paulo metropolitan region, where the city's sprawl meets steeper, greener terrain. On a map, the town does not follow a single grid. Instead, neighbourhoods fill the valleys and climb the hillsides in irregular clusters, linked by winding roads. The Juqueri river runs through the area, and the CPTM Line 7 rail corridor gives the urban area a clear spine.
The town takes its name from Francisco Franco da Rocha, the psychiatrist who founded the Juquery hospital here at the end of the nineteenth century. The hospital complex, one of the largest psychiatric institutions in Brazil's history, still occupies a distinctive site in the town. Nearby, the Juquery State Park protects one of the last areas of cerrado vegetation in the metropolitan region.
A Franco da Rocha map poster traces a place shaped by topography and by the railway. Streets fold around the hills, the rail line draws a steady stroke through them, and the open green of the state park adds a calm field of space. It is a personal image for residents and commuters who know the town's slopes and stations by heart.
The CPTM Line 7 tracks run through the town, a continuous line connecting it with São Paulo and Jundiaí and organising the urban area around its stations.
The grounds of the historic psychiatric hospital form a large, distinct area of buildings and open land, set apart from the surrounding residential streets.
The Juquery State Park covers hills of cerrado vegetation near the town, appearing on the map as a broad open area with only a few paths and roads.
