Ko e mape
Garça is a town in the interior of São Paulo state, in the rolling country of the western plateau. Seen from above, the centre is a regular grid of blocks typical of towns founded in the region during the expansion of coffee farming in the early twentieth century, with straight streets running out to meet highways and the patchwork of fields beyond.
The name means heron in Portuguese, a light and unusual touch for a map title. Around the urban area the landscape is agricultural, with small streams cutting shallow valleys and rural roads dividing the land into long parcels. Marília, the nearest large city, lies a short distance to the west along the routes that link the interior.
A Garça map poster shows a compact, legible town: a clear grid at the centre, newer neighbourhoods growing out along the main roads, and the thin lines of watercourses in the surrounding valleys. It is an understated composition that rewards a closer look, especially in larger print sizes where the smaller streets have room to breathe.
The original blocks form a tidy chequerboard at the heart of town, the kind of layout that reads cleanly and confidently in black and white.
Small watercourses wind through shallow valleys around the urban edge, adding soft, irregular curves that contrast with the straight streets of the centre.
Highways and rural roads leave the town in several directions, linking it to Marília and the farming country of the São Paulo plateau.
