The Gulf of İzmit
The long, enclosed gulf fills much of the frame as open water, giving the poster a calm horizontal field and a clear sense of how the town faces the sea.

Gölcük lies on the southern shore of the Gulf of İzmit, the long inlet that reaches deep into Kocaeli from the Sea of Marmara. The town occupies a slim strip of flat land between the water and the hills behind it, so its streets run mostly parallel to the coast, with shorter lanes climbing uphill wherever the slope allows.
The town is closely tied to the sea. It is home to the Turkish Navy's principal base, whose basins and piers occupy a large part of the shoreline. Gölcük is also remembered for the 1999 earthquake, which struck close by and caused severe damage here; much of the town was rebuilt in the years that followed.
A Gölcük map poster shows these layers plainly. The gulf forms a broad blank field across the composition, the harbour works cut sharp shapes into the coastline, and the town's streets thicken along the shore before fading into the hillsides. It is a picture of a place defined by its edge with the water.
The long, enclosed gulf fills much of the frame as open water, giving the poster a calm horizontal field and a clear sense of how the town faces the sea.
The navy's base shapes a long stretch of the coast with piers, basins and breakwaters, which appear on the map as crisp geometric forms along an otherwise gentle shoreline.
Behind the coastal strip, streets climb and bend into the hills south of town, their curves loosening the linework and showing how the land rises away from the water.

Ko e ha Gölcük
For families with roots in Gölcük, sailors who served there, or anyone who rebuilt a life in the town after 1999, the map carries real weight. Its long coastline and hills make a composition that feels both specific and restful on a wall.
Add your own title, a meaningful date in the subtitle, and coordinates, then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Noir works well here, turning the gulf into a deep dark field against pale streets.
