Ko e mape
Gröbenzell is a municipality in Upper Bavaria, just beyond the western edge of Munich. From above, it is almost entirely residential: long, straight streets laid out in parallel, lined with houses and gardens. The layout reflects the town's development across flat former moorland, where land was divided into regular plots rather than growing from a historic core.
The S-Bahn line to Munich crosses the town and forms one of the strongest lines on the map, with the station acting as a local centre. Small streams and drainage ditches run through the area, a trace of the moorland landscape. The neighbouring towns of Olching and Puchheim lie close by, and open fields separate them in places.
A Gröbenzell map poster shows a very different kind of place from a medieval town: orderly, green and structured by the railway. In black and white, the repeated lines of residential streets create a calm, almost textile-like pattern that reads well at any size.
Long residential streets run side by side across the flat land, creating a regular, rhythmic pattern that dominates the map.
The commuter rail line to Munich cuts diagonally through the town, with the station area forming a natural centre.
Small streams and ditches and patches of open land recall the moor on which Gröbenzell was built.
