Handlová stretches lengthwise along its valley, so the poster shows a long, narrow urban shape running between two forested slopes rather than a round centre.

Ko e mape
Handlová lies in the Trenčín Region of central Slovakia, in a valley that runs between wooded mountain ranges above the Upper Nitra basin. From above, the town takes a distinctly linear form. Housing estates, older streets and industrial sites follow the valley floor and the stream running through it, with forest pressing in from the slopes on either side.
For most of the twentieth century Handlová was defined by brown coal mining, and the map still carries traces of that history in former mine sites, rail sidings and the large apartment blocks built for miners and their families. These estates appear as bold, regular forms set against the more organic lines of older houses and lanes.
Long before the mining era, the town was settled by German-speaking colonists, and for centuries it carried a German name alongside its Slovak one. A Handlová map poster records these layers in one view: the valley road, the blocks and industrial sites of a working town, and the long green ridges that give the place its sheltered, enclosed feel.
Handlová stretches lengthwise along its valley, so the poster shows a long, narrow urban shape running between two forested slopes rather than a round centre.
Former mine areas and rail spurs remain visible in the town's layout, reminders of the coal industry that shaped Handlová's growth for much of the last century.
Large blocks of flats built during the mining boom form bold, geometric clusters on the map, contrasting with the smaller, irregular plots of the older streets.

Ko e ha Handlová
For former miners and their families, and for anyone who grew up in the valley, this map holds a lot of memory. It shows a working town honestly, with its estates, its industry and the forests around it, and makes a thoughtful gift for someone who has moved away.
