Ko e mape
Ḩaql is the northernmost town on Saudi Arabia's Gulf of Aqaba coast, set on the eastern shore close to the border with Jordan. On the map it is a narrow band of streets and blocks squeezed between the water and the rugged desert mountains inland, a linear town shaped almost entirely by its coastline.
From its beaches the view takes in several countries at once: the Jordanian port of Aqaba and Israel's Eilat at the head of the gulf, and the mountains of Egypt's Sinai across the water. The coast road runs along the shore, linking the town with settlements further south, and the sea edge dominates the drawing.
Nearby, the wreck of a cargo ship stranded off the shore has become a well-known sight for visitors. A Ḩaql map poster frames the town between coast and mountain, a clean, graphic composition in which the sea occupies a large part of the sheet and the streets follow the gentle curve of the shoreline.
The coast of the Gulf of Aqaba runs the length of the town, a strong continuous line with open water filling one side of the poster.
Streets and blocks stretch along the shore rather than spreading inland, producing a long, narrow town shape that follows the water closely.
Rugged mountains rise inland, drawn as open space crossed by only a few roads, framing the town and emphasising its position on a narrow coastal strip.

Ko e ha Ḩaql
Ḩaql appeals to people who live along the gulf, to divers and travellers who have spent time on its coast, and to anyone drawn to a shore within sight of three other countries. The sea gives the map a calm, striking balance.
