Hazel Grove lies on the south-eastern side of Stockport in Greater Manchester. The A6, the historic road from Manchester toward Buxton and London, runs straight through it and holds the map together. Older terraces and shops line the main road, and later housing estates spread out on either side in curving avenues, crescents and cul-de-sacs.
The railway to Buxton crosses the area, and Hazel Grove station sits near the main road. To the east and south, the ground rises toward the hills at the western edge of the Peak District, and open fields and golf courses break up the suburban pattern. It is a place where Greater Manchester slowly gives way to countryside.
