Imperial Beach is the southernmost city in California, just north of the border with Mexico. On a map it is almost surrounded by water and open land: the Pacific shoreline to the west, the southern end of San Diego Bay to the north, and the wide marshes of the Tijuana River estuary to the south, which leave the town a compact grid of residential streets in between.
The long municipal pier reaching into the ocean is the town's best-known landmark, and the Silver Strand, the thin sand spit that runs north toward Coronado, begins here. The estuary is a protected national estuarine research reserve, one of the largest remaining coastal wetlands in Southern California, and its channels spread in fine branching lines.
An Imperial Beach map poster makes a strong graphic statement because so much of the frame is water and wetland. The regular blocks of the town sit between the straight ocean edge, the soft outline of the bay and the intricate estuary channels, a composition that feels both precise and open.
Imperial Beach Pier extends straight out into the Pacific from the end of the town's main streets, a single bold line against the open ocean on the map.
South of the town, the estuary's marshes and winding tidal channels form an intricate natural pattern, a protected reserve that separates the city from the border.
The narrow sand spit starts at Imperial Beach and runs north between ocean and bay toward Coronado, a long thin ribbon that defines the northern edge.

For surfers, Navy families and anyone who has lived at the very bottom corner of the state, Imperial Beach is a distinct place, and its map reads instantly as coastline, bay and marsh.
Add your own title, a date or the exact coordinates of your street, then choose from five styles. Blueprint emphasises the water, and Sand brings out the beach-town warmth of the shoreline.
