Jagiroad is a town in the Morigaon district of Assam, on the flat and fertile plains south of the Brahmaputra, some distance east of Guwahati. The railway line and the national highway both pass close by, and much of the town's shape follows these two corridors. Around them, the map fills with lanes, ponds and low-lying fields that flood in the monsoon.
The town is widely known for its dry fish market, often described as one of the largest in Asia, which draws traders from across the Northeast. Jagiroad is also home to a large paper mill that for decades was one of the region's main industrial employers, with its own township and grid of streets beside the main town.
