Jhānsi lies in the Bundelkhand region of southern Uttar Pradesh, close to the border with Madhya Pradesh. The landscape here is rocky and uneven. The city grew around a granite hill crowned by Jhansi Fort, built in the early seventeenth century by the Bundela ruler Bir Singh Deo, and the fort still overlooks the old town.
The city's best-known figure is Rani Lakshmibai, who led its defence during the uprising of 1857 and remains a national symbol of resistance. The older quarters below the fort were once enclosed by a wall and keep the narrow, irregular streets of a historic market town. The British cantonment and the railway added a more spacious, regular pattern beside them.
Jhansi is now a major railway junction, and the tracks form strong lines across any Jhānsi map poster, meeting in a broad band of sidings. Around them are the curving roads of the cantonment, reservoirs and tanks, and rock outcrops that interrupt the street network. Together they give the map a character quite unlike the flat cities of the Ganges plain.
The fort sits on a rocky hill at the heart of the city. Its walls outline an irregular shape, and the older streets of the town wrap around it.
Below the fort, the historic quarters form a close network of narrow streets and small squares. They are denser and less regular than the neighbourhoods built later.
Lines arriving from several directions meet at Jhansi. The wide band of tracks and yards is one of the strongest graphic elements on the whole map.

For families from Bundelkhand, and for anyone who grew up with the story of the Rani of Jhansi, the city carries real weight. A map of the fort, the old town and the railway makes a meaningful print for home or office.
You can change the title and subtitle to add a family name or a date, and select one of five styles. Sand works well with the region's stone and dry landscape. Each of the six sizes comes as a 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF.
