Jiexiu is a county-level city in Jinzhong, in central Shanxi. It sits in the southern part of the Taiyuan basin, where the Fen River runs south through farmland. The city centre forms a compact grid, with an older core and newer districts spreading across the flat valley floor. To the south, the land rises toward Mount Mian, whose cliffs and ridges mark the edge of the plain.
The mountain gives the city both its name and its best-known story. Jie Zitui, a loyal follower of Duke Wen of Jin, is said to have withdrawn to Mianshan and died there when the forest was burned to force him out. The Cold Food Festival, when fires were traditionally left unlit, is linked to his memory, and Jiexiu is often called its home.
A Jiexiu map poster captures the regular blocks of the town and the railway and highways running along the valley toward Taiyuan and the south. It also shows where flat fields give way to mountain slopes. Historic sites lie nearby, such as the Zhangbi fortified village and its underground tunnels, a reminder of how long this corridor has been settled and defended.
The ridges of Mianshan rise to the south of the city. They contrast sharply with the flat valley and are the setting of the Jie Zitui legend.
The broad valley of the Fen River carries farmland, the railway and the main roads past the city, giving the map a strong north–south direction.
The older part of town and its newer districts form a tight rectangular grid that is easy to read at every size and in every style.

People from Jiexiu, and anyone interested in Chinese festivals and legends, will recognise the pairing of valley town and mountain. It makes an unusual and personal piece for a wall, especially as a gift around Qingming, which grew partly out of the older Cold Food traditions.
Personalise the title and subtitle, add a date, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. All six print sizes come as 300 DPI PNG and PDF files for $9, or you can order a matte print shipped locally.
