Kalghatgi is a town in the Dharwad district of northern Karnataka, southwest of Hubballi. It stands where the open plains begin to give way to the wooded country of the Western Ghats foothills. As the headquarters of its taluk, it serves a wide rural area, and its roads connect it with Hubballi, Dharwad and the forest towns to the west.
The town is known across Karnataka for its painted wooden cradles and toys, made by local craftsmen and traditionally given for the birth of a child.
