Kāraikāl sits on the Coromandel Coast, surrounded on its landward sides by Tamil Nadu but administered as part of the Union Territory of Puducherry. Like Puducherry itself, it was a French possession until the 1950s, and the town keeps traces of that layered history. On the map the coastline runs almost straight from north to south, and the town gathers near the mouth of the Arasalar river.
The surrounding land belongs to the fertile delta of the Kaveri, crossed by rivers, distributaries and irrigation channels that appear as thin, wavering lines between villages and paddy fields. Roads connect the town with Nagapattinam to the south and the temple towns inland. The town itself is compact, with a denser older core and newer streets spreading toward the port and the beach.
Kāraikāl is known for its temples, including the shrine associated with the poet-saint Karaikal Ammaiyar, and nearby Thirunallar draws pilgrims from across South India. A Kāraikāl map poster sets all of this in clean line work: the river mouth, the long shoreline and the delta channels that wrap around the town, with the open sea along one edge.
The river reaches the Bay of Bengal beside the town, and its final curve and estuary give the coastline a distinct break that anchors the composition.
Around the town, the Kaveri delta spreads into a fine web of channels and small rivers, which appear as delicate lines across the farmland.
The Coromandel Coast runs in a long, clean line along the eastern edge of the map, with the beach and the port set against open sea.

Ko e ha Kāraikāl
Kāraikāl holds a particular place for people with ties to both Tamil and French history, and for the many families who come here for the temples. A map of the town is a calm way to keep that connection visible at home.
