Karimabad is the main town of the Hunza valley in Gilgit-Baltistan, northern Pakistan. It rises up a steep slope above the Hunza River, surrounded by some of the highest mountains in the Karakoram. Above the town stands Baltit Fort, a centuries-old fortress that was home to the rulers of Hunza, and the older Altit Fort sits a short distance away.
The map of Karimabad is shaped by gradient and water. Lanes climb the hillside in bends, and narrow irrigation channels carry glacier meltwater across the slopes to terraced fields and orchards. Below, the Karakoram Highway runs along the valley. The town looks toward peaks such as Rakaposhi and Ultar Sar, although on a flat map they show only as empty space.
A Karimabad map poster captures a settlement that clings to a mountainside. The winding lanes, stacked terraces and the line of the river below make a composition full of movement. It is a strong choice for travellers who made the journey north along the Karakoram Highway and want a lasting reminder of the valley.
The old fort stands on high ground at the top of the town. On the poster the lanes leading up to it show how the settlement grew below its protection.
Fields and orchards step down the hillside on narrow terraces. Their curving edges and the paths between them give the map a layered, contour-like look.
The highway follows the Hunza valley below the town. Its long line along the valley floor contrasts with the tight bends of the lanes climbing above.

Ko e ha Karimabad
Karimabad often comes up as a highlight of travel in northern Pakistan. A map of the town keeps the memory of that valley, the forts and the mountain light in a form that fits a modern home.
Add a title, a subtitle with the dates of your trip and the coordinates. Blueprint and Noir bring out the mountain lanes well, and Paper and Sand give a softer finish.
