Kashiwa lies in northwestern Chiba Prefecture, in the flat, well-watered lowlands northeast of Tokyo. On a map it is a dense, continuous urban area with no clear edge. Built-up neighbourhoods cover most of the land, and patches of farmland and woods remain between them. The Tone River runs to the north, and Teganuma, a long, narrow lake, lies along the south.
The heart of the city is Kashiwa Station on the Jōban Line, where rail lines cross and the dense commercial centre is packed close around the station. Residential streets spread out in irregular patterns, typical of Japanese suburbs that grew along rail lines. To the northwest, the newer Kashiwa-no-ha district along the Tsukuba Express has a more deliberate, planned layout.
Kashiwa is home to the University of Tokyo's Kashiwa campus and to the J.League club Kashiwa Reysol. A Kashiwa map poster shows a commuter city defined by its railways and water: a station-centred core, a fine web of residential streets, and the long shape of Teganuma along its southern side.
The dense commercial area around Kashiwa Station has a tight, detailed street pattern. It clearly marks the centre of the map where rail lines meet.
Along the city's southern edge, the long, narrow Teganuma lake forms an elongated body of water, bordered by green areas and a few crossings.
The newer district along the Tsukuba Express, near the university campus, has a planned, more open layout that stands out from the older, organic suburbs.

Ko e ha Kashiwa
Kashiwa is where many people have lived, studied or started a family while commuting into Tokyo. A map of its streets, rail lines and lake is a quiet way to remember those years or to celebrate a new home.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, adding the Japanese name, a neighbourhood or a date. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper suits a Japanese interior, and Noir brings out the rail lines.
