Ko e mape
Khalándrion sits in the northern belt of Athens, where the city spreads towards the slopes of Mount Penteli. From above, the street pattern is close and irregular: short blocks, small squares and lanes that change direction wherever older plots once met. There is no single grand axis. Instead, the fabric reads as a patchwork of neighbourhoods that grew together over the twentieth century.
The feature that stands out most on the map is the Rematia, a stream valley that runs through the municipality as a narrow strip of open ground. Around it the building lines give way, and the drawing loosens into curves and empty space. The Khalándrion map poster keeps that contrast: a crowded urban grain on either side and a thin, winding seam of green in between.
Along its edges the suburb meets major roads and the metro, which link it to central Athens and the airport corridor. These routes appear as long, confident strokes against the finer residential mesh. The area traces its roots to the ancient deme of Phlya, though today it is mostly a place of apartment buildings, cafés around its central square and quiet side streets.
A protected stream corridor winds through the town, leaving a soft, curving gap in the street network where trees and paths replace blocks and buildings.
Short, irregular blocks and small squares fill most of the map, giving the poster a fine, textured surface typical of the northern Athens suburbs.
Wide roads and the metro line run along and through the municipality, drawn as bold, straight strokes that frame the denser neighbourhoods.
