Ko e mape
Kolguyev Island lies in the southeastern Barents Sea, north of the Russian mainland, and belongs to the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. It is a large, low island of about five thousand square kilometres, with a rounded outline and gentle slopes that barely rise above the surrounding sea. On a map it reads as a single broad disc of land with few sharp edges.
The interior is tundra, crossed by slowly meandering rivers on their way to the coast and dotted with countless small lakes. Along the shore, lagoons and river mouths soften the outline, especially where sandbars and spits form. Very little is built on the island, so its map is a study in natural texture. The lines of water carry almost all of the detail.
Nenets reindeer herders have long used Kolguyev, and it is an important summer breeding ground for geese and other Arctic birds. A small settlement, Bugrino, lies on the southern coast. A Kolguyev Island map poster presents this rarely seen place as an open, almost abstract composition of rivers and lakes framed by the cold northern sea.
Slow rivers wind across the island from the centre toward the coast. Their wide loops give the map its most distinctive lines.
Countless small lakes are spread across the flat interior. They form a speckled pattern that becomes especially rich at the larger poster sizes.
The outline is broad and smooth, softened by lagoons and river mouths. It gives the island a calm silhouette set in the open Barents Sea.

Ko e ha Kolguyev Island
Most people know Kolguyev only from atlases, yet its map has an unexpected beauty. It suits anyone with ties to the Russian north and birdwatchers who follow Arctic migration. It also suits people who like maps where nature draws every line.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, whether that is the island’s name, a research season or a date. Choose one of five styles. Classic black & white keeps the lakes crisp, and Blueprint makes the whole island look almost like a chart.
