Ko e mape
Koraput lies high in the Eastern Ghats of southern Odisha, at an elevation that makes it noticeably cooler than the coastal plains. On a map, the town looks nothing like a flat grid: roads wind along the hillsides, climb over low ridges and connect separate clusters of houses. Slopes and green spaces break up the built area, so the overall outline is irregular and open.
The district is home to many Adivasi communities, whose cultures shape much of its identity. Koraput is known for the Sabara Srikhetra, a Jagannath temple closely linked to local tribal tradition. The surrounding hills grow coffee and many traditional rice varieties, and the FAO has recognised the region's farming as a globally important agricultural heritage system.
A Koraput map poster traces the logic of a hill town: roads following the shape of the land, neighbourhoods gathered on flatter ground and open slopes between them. The result is a map with more curves than straight lines, a clear picture of the plateau and of the careful ways people have settled it.
Streets follow the shape of the hills, winding around slopes rather than cutting across them, which gives the map its flowing, curving character.
Neighbourhoods gather on flatter ground between ridges, forming separate pockets of streets linked by longer, winding roads across the slopes.
The Sabara Srikhetra temple complex is one of the town's best-known landmarks, a point of reference on the map for anyone who knows Koraput.

Koraput draws students, officials, researchers and travellers to its hills, and many leave with a strong attachment to the place. A map of its winding streets is a fitting keepsake from a posting, a period of study or a childhood on the plateau.
