Korçë sits on a fertile plateau in southeastern Albania, at around 850 metres, with the Morava mountains rising on its eastern side. The city has a clear, easy-to-read structure: a central boulevard leading to the cathedral, a restored old bazaar, and neighbourhoods of low houses with gardens behind walls. Korçë has long been a cultural centre.
