Ko e mape
Kreuztal lies in the Siegerland, just north of Siegen in North Rhine-Westphalia. The town was formed from several villages, and its map shows that clearly: built-up areas follow the Ferndorf valley and its side valleys, joined by roads and a railway line, while the hills between them remain heavily wooded. The result is a branching, linear shape rather than a single compact centre.
The district of Krombach, part of Kreuztal, is home to the Krombacher brewery, one of the best-known beer brands in Germany. The area also has a long industrial background tied to the iron and metalworking tradition of the Siegerland, and factories and rail sidings still sit along the valley floor next to residential streets.
A Kreuztal map poster makes the valley structure its main subject. Streets gather along the floor of the Ferndorf, spread up into side valleys, and stop where the forested slopes begin. On paper the woods become calm blank space, and the town appears as a set of connected threads, a very characteristic picture of a hill-country town in western Germany.
The main settlement follows the Ferndorf stream, so the town stretches along the valley floor with road and rail running beside it.
The Kreuztal district of Krombach is home to the Krombacher brewery, whose large site is a clear footprint on the map.
Forested ridges separate the town's districts, leaving broad empty areas on the map that emphasise the linear shape of the built-up land.
