Ko e mape
Kunshan lies in the south of Jiangsu, between Shanghai and Suzhou, in the flat water country of the Yangtze River Delta. Lakes, rivers and canals cross its territory in every direction, and on a map the city looks like a patchwork of land between waterways. Its location made it one of China's strongest manufacturing centres, especially for electronics, with industrial parks spreading along wide new avenues.
The old centre has a more compact street pattern around a small hill park, while newer districts follow a broad, regular grid. Yangcheng Lake, known across China for its hairy crabs, lies to the northwest, and Dianshan Lake reaches into Kunshan's southern territory. Water shapes almost every edge on the map.
Kunshan is also the home of Kunqu, one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera, and its territory includes Zhouzhuang, a canal town of stone bridges and waterside houses. A Kunshan map poster gathers these layers together: industrial grids, historic water towns, lakes and the network of canals that connects all of them.
Rivers and canals cut across the city and its towns in straight and winding lines, dividing the map into dozens of distinct pieces of land.
The historic water town in the south of Kunshan, where houses line narrow canals crossed by stone bridges, forms a small, intricate knot on the map.
Yangcheng Lake to the northwest and Dianshan Lake to the south add large, open water shapes that balance the dense grids of the city.

Ko e ha Kunshan
Kunshan draws people from all over China and beyond for work, and many build their lives there. A map of its canals, lakes and districts makes a thoughtful record of that chapter, and the water gives the composition an airy feel.
