Lanham-Seabrook is a suburban area in Prince George's County, Maryland, east of Washington, D.C. From above, it is a network of curving residential streets and cul-de-sacs, cut through by major highways, including the Capital Beltway, which runs through the area and shapes much of the map.
The area grew mainly in the post-war decades as the Washington region expanded, and it combines residential neighbourhoods with commercial corridors along the main roads. A MARC commuter rail station at Seabrook links the area to the capital. It was later divided into the separate census areas of Lanham and Seabrook.
A Lanham-Seabrook map poster shows the characteristic suburban pattern: winding streets, green spaces, highway interchanges and long, straight roads. In black and white, the curves and loops of the residential areas contrast with the bold lines of the highways, creating a detailed and graphic composition.
The Beltway runs through the area in a wide curve, with large interchanges that form some of the strongest shapes on the map.
Residential neighbourhoods are laid out with winding roads and cul-de-sacs, creating a fine, looping texture typical of post-war American suburbs.
The commuter railway runs through Seabrook in a long straight line, linking the area to Washington and cutting across the suburban street pattern.
