Liangping is a district in the north-east of Chongqing municipality, in a region otherwise known for its steep, parallel ridges. The town sits in a relatively broad, level basin, and that shows clearly on the map. The streets spread outward more freely than in the hill towns around it, while long mountain ranges line the horizon to either side and roads squeeze through the gaps between them.
The district's flat, fertile ground has long made it a farming centre in a hilly part of western China. Liangping is known nationally for its pomelos, a local variety that has become something of a regional emblem. Road and rail links now connect the district with central Chongqing and with neighbouring Sichuan.
