Great Glen line
The loch runs dead straight along a fault in the Highlands, giving the poster a single strong diagonal that is unusual for a natural lake.

Loch Ness Map Poster & Print
Loch Ness is a model of simplicity from above: a long, narrow strip of water running almost dead straight from southwest to northeast. It follows the Great Glen, a fault line that slices across the Scottish Highlands, and its steep sides leave little room for anything other than a road on each shore.
That straightness makes the few details stand out. Fort Augustus sits at the southern end, where the Caledonian Canal steps down into the loch through a flight of locks. Halfway along the north shore, Urquhart Castle occupies a small headland. At the northern end the River Ness carries the water on to Inverness.
The loch holds more water than any other lake in Britain, thanks to its great depth. A Loch Ness map poster favours clean composition over density: one bold diagonal, two roads and the canal linking coast to coast, with the legend of its monster left to the viewer.

Caledonian Canal link
At Fort Augustus the canal enters the loch through a series of locks, part of the waterway that joins the east and west coasts of Scotland.
Urquhart Castle headland
A small promontory on the northwestern shore holds the castle ruins, one of the few breaks in an otherwise very even shoreline.

Some people hang Loch Ness for a Highland road trip, others for Scottish roots or simply because the shape is so clean. A single straight loch framed by dark hills and thin roads makes a quiet, confident piece.
