Ko e mape
Los Álamos is a town in Arauco Province in the Biobío Region, in the strip of land between the Nahuelbuta coastal range and the Pacific. From above the centre is a compact grid in the Chilean tradition, a few blocks around a central square, with newer neighbourhoods and roadside development spreading out along the main routes that link it with Cañete, Curanilahue and Lebu.
The surrounding landscape is shaped by forestry and farming. Plantations cover much of the hills, and on a map their access roads form a network of winding lines across the slopes, while small rivers and streams run down towards the coast. The Arauco area has deep Mapuche roots and a long history of coal mining along its coast, and both still shape the identity of the province.
A Los Álamos map poster shows a small Chilean grid town in its wider setting. The regular blocks form a neat centre, the main roads stretch away in clear lines, and the hills around add softer, more organic detail. It is a quiet, accurate portrait for people from the town and for anyone who knows the south of Biobío.
The historic core follows a regular block plan around the main square, a pattern shared by many towns in southern Chile and very clear in black and white.
The main road through Arauco Province links Los Álamos with Cañete, Curanilahue and Lebu, forming the strongest line across the composition.
Plantation roads wind across the slopes around the town, adding fine, curving detail that contrasts with the straight streets of the centre.
