Lyantonde sits on the main road between Masaka and Mbarara in southwestern Uganda, and that road defines the town. Most of Lyantonde's shops, lodges and fuel stations line the highway, and the town has long served as a stopping point for trucks and travellers crossing the region toward Rwanda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
On the map, the highway forms a strong central spine, with shorter streets branching off to either side into residential areas.
