Ko e mape
Ma'an sits high on the southern Jordanian plateau, where the land flattens into stony desert. From above the town is a tight cluster of low blocks with no river or coastline to shape it. What organises the map instead are its routes: the Desert Highway and the local roads that feed it cross the plain in long straight lines and meet here.
For centuries the town was a stop on the pilgrim road between Damascus and the Hejaz, and in the early twentieth century the Hejaz Railway passed through. Travellers heading to Petra, a short drive west towards the Shara mountains, still come through it. On paper, that history shows up as a settlement held together by crossing routes rather than by landscape.
A Ma'an map poster keeps what makes the place legible: a dense core of lanes, the neighbourhoods spreading out from it, and the long lines leaving for the desert. With so little water or terrain to fill the paper, the white space around the town matters as much as the streets themselves.
The main north–south road through southern Jordan runs past the town, a firm straight line that anchors the composition and links Ma'an to Amman and Aqaba.
The Hejaz Railway once stopped here on its route south. The station area is part of the town's layout and a reminder of its role as a waypoint.
Beyond the last blocks the street network simply stops. The surrounding emptiness gives the poster a stark, graphic edge that few other maps have.

Ko e ha Ma'an
People hang Ma'an because they grew up here, served here, or passed through on the way to Petra and Wadi Rum. It is a quiet, precise image of a desert crossroads, and it works well in rooms that suit something sparse.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example a family name or the year you left, and pick one of five styles. Sand suits the plateau naturally, while Noir turns the street grid into fine light lines on black.
