Maharagama lies on the southeastern side of Greater Colombo in Sri Lanka's Western Province. Its shape is easy to read on a map: the High Level Road runs through the middle like a spine, and a close mesh of residential lanes branches out on either side, filling the gently rolling ground between paddy lowlands, small marshes and neighbouring suburbs.
The town is widely known across the country as the home of Apeksha Hospital, the national cancer hospital, which draws patients from every province. It is also a commercial junction in its own right, with shops and bus routes clustered along the main road, while the side streets settle into quieter, tree-lined residential pockets.
