The long harbour
The natural harbour runs deep inland from the sea. In black and white it looks like a dark channel cutting across the island, with the town lined up along its southern cliffs.

Ko e mape
Maó, also written Mahón, is the capital of Menorca and sits on one of the largest natural harbours in the Mediterranean. The inlet runs about five kilometres inland from the sea, deep and narrow. On a map it is the first thing you notice: a long channel of water with small islands in it and quays along its edges.
The old town stands on the cliffs of the harbour's southern shore. Its streets are tight and irregular, and stairways and ramps lead down to the waterfront. Past the historic core, the grid loosens into newer districts and then fields crossed by the dry-stone walls typical of Menorca. Isla del Rey, once home to a British naval hospital, sits in the middle of the harbour.
Menorca spent much of the eighteenth century under British rule, which is when Maó took over as the island's capital. That era still shows in the sash windows and the local gin. A Maó map poster reduces all of this to shoreline and street, and the harbour makes a composition that needs nothing added.
The natural harbour runs deep inland from the sea. In black and white it looks like a dark channel cutting across the island, with the town lined up along its southern cliffs.
This small island in the harbour held a British naval hospital. On the poster it is a clear, compact shape in the middle of the channel.
The historic centre sits high above the water on a dense tangle of streets. Ramps and stairs link it to the quays below, and the steep edge shows up as a sharp line.

Ko e ha Maó
Maó stays with people who have sailed into its harbour or spent summers on Menorca. The map records the long approach by water and the town on its cliff, and it looks right in a calm room.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with a boat's name or the summer you arrived. Blueprint suits the nautical side of the town, Sand echoes the island's stone, and Classic, Noir and Paper are there too.
