Maşīrah is an island off the eastern coast of Oman, in the Arabian Sea. From above it is a long, narrow strip of arid land running roughly north to south. It is edged by beaches and rocky shoreline, with a sparse network of roads. The main settlement lies toward the northern end, facing the channel that separates the island from the mainland.
The island is known for its sea turtles. Several species nest on its beaches, and Masirah is regarded as one of the important nesting sites in the region. Ferries cross the channel from the mainland coast, and the island has long hosted an air base. Beyond the town, much of it is quiet, open desert and shore.
