Mayfield Heights is an inner-ring suburb on the east side of Greater Cleveland, in Cuyahoga County. Its map is shaped by two strong lines. Mayfield Road runs east to west through the city as its main commercial corridor, and Interstate 271 runs north to south along the eastern side, with its interchanges showing up as looping knots in the linework.
Between these corridors are mid-century residential streets: short blocks, curving lanes and cul-de-sacs typical of postwar suburban planning, broken up by apartment complexes and retail sites near the main roads. The city is also home to Hillcrest Hospital, one of the larger medical centres in the eastern suburbs, whose campus occupies a sizeable parcel on the map.
