Mellit Map Poster & Print

Mellit is a town in North Darfur, Sudan, north of El Fasher, in the dry country where the Sahel shades into the desert. On a map the town is low and spread out. Compounds and lanes cluster around a central market, and the edges fade gradually into open ground.

Mellit has long been a market town and a stop on routes heading north through Darfur. Tracks and roads leave it in several directions across flat, sandy land where there are few fixed features to break up the view.

Seasonal watercourses, dry for much of the year, cross parts of the surrounding land and appear on the map as faint lines. A Mellit map poster is spare by nature: a small, dense centre in a wide landscape, drawn in the same simple lines that people use to find their way across it.

01

Market centre

The densest cluster of lanes sits around the market, forming the heart of the poster and the point where the town's routes meet.

02

Tracks outward

Roads and tracks run out across the open land in several directions, thin lines that give the composition its structure.

03

Open Sahel ground

Beyond the last compounds the map is almost empty. That openness is the defining feature of this landscape and of the print.

For people from Mellit and North Darfur, especially those living far from home, the map keeps the town's layout and name on the wall. It shows the place accurately and without embellishment.

The title, subtitle and coordinates line can hold a family name or a date, and the design comes in five styles including Paper and Sand. Download the files for home printing or order a matte print.
