Meycauayan sits in southern Bulacan, directly north of Valenzuela and the Metro Manila boundary, and the map shows how closely the two have grown together. Streets run continuously across the border, and the main routes north out of the capital cross the city: the MacArthur Highway through the older centre, and the North Luzon Expressway on a parallel route.
The Meycauayan River winds through the city on its way toward Manila Bay, joined by smaller streams, with fishponds in the low-lying western barangays. Its curves cut across the grid of subdivisions and older neighbourhoods, and on the map they give the dense urban fabric a softer, organic line. Much of the ground here sits low and close to the water.
Meycauayan is one of the oldest towns in Bulacan, with a church of Saint Francis of Assisi at its historic centre, and it has long been known for jewellery-making and leather tanning. A Meycauayan map poster captures a place where old town, industry and expanding suburbs press together along the roads leading north from Manila.
The river winds westward through the city. Its irregular course and branching channels cut across the streets and mark the lower ground toward the bay.
The MacArthur Highway and the North Luzon Expressway both pass through Meycauayan. These two long north–south lines carry much of the city's traffic and commerce and have guided its growth.
Around the church of Saint Francis of Assisi the older streets form a tighter pattern. This is the historic core from which the town spread outward.
