Midvale sits in the middle of the Salt Lake Valley in Utah, roughly halfway between downtown Salt Lake City and the southern suburbs, which is often given as the source of its name. It is a small city by area, tightly bounded by its neighbours. On the map it appears as a dense patch of streets shaped by major transport lines.
Interstate 15 runs north to south through the city, and TRAX light rail lines pass through it with several stations. The older centre along Main Street, near the railway, keeps a small grid of blocks. The western side slopes toward the Jordan River, where former industrial land has been redeveloped into new neighbourhoods.
Midvale's history is tied to mining and smelting. Ore from the Bingham Canyon area was processed here for decades before the old industrial land was cleaned up and rebuilt. A Midvale map poster shows the city as it is now: the river, the interstate, the rail lines, and the valley grid continuing on every side.
The Jordan River runs along the western side of the city. Its winding line contrasts with the valley's otherwise strict north-south grid.
Interstate 15 and the TRAX light rail cut through Midvale in long strokes, giving the small city a clear skeleton on the map.
The older commercial strip near the railway keeps a small, fine-grained grid. This was the original core of the town before the valley filled in.

Ko e ha Midvale
The Salt Lake Valley can look like one continuous grid, but people who live here know exactly where Midvale starts and ends. A map of it marks that local knowledge, whether for a first home, a family that has been here for generations, or a move away.
