Miyawaka lies in northern Fukuoka Prefecture on Kyushu, between the metropolitan areas of Fukuoka and Kitakyushu. The city was formed in 2006 through the merger of the towns of Miyata and Wakamiya, and the map still suggests two centres linked across a landscape of farmland, low hills and river valleys rather than one continuous urban area.
The area is best known today as the home of a major Toyota Motor Kyushu plant, whose large, regular footprint stands out sharply against the fine texture of surrounding rice paddies and residential streets. Forested hills frame the lower land, so the settled parts of the city follow the valleys and plains between them.
A Miyawaka map poster captures that mix of rural and industrial Japan. The small rectangles of fields, the scattered clusters of houses and the broad geometry of the factory site create a composition with clear contrasts. In a minimalist style, it becomes a precise portrait of a city defined as much by its landscape as by its streets.
The Toyota Motor Kyushu factory occupies a large, clearly bounded site whose straight edges contrast with the organic forms of farmland and hills.
Formed from Miyata and Wakamiya in 2006, the city shows more than one built-up core, connected by roads running through open agricultural land.
Rice fields divide the valley floors into small, regular parcels, giving the map a fine, woven texture between the settlements and wooded hills.
