Ridge roads
The main roads run along the crests and flanks of the hills, looping back on themselves as they climb, so the poster reads almost like a contour drawing.

Mon is the headquarters of Mon District in the northern part of Nagaland, in India's far northeast, close to the border with Myanmar. The town is built on hilly ground. On the map its roads twist along ridges and around slopes, forming a loose, branching network rather than a grid.
The district is home to the Konyak Naga people. They are known for their tradition of facial tattoos, for the authority of their hereditary chiefs, called Anghs, and for a past as warrior headhunters that ended in the twentieth century. Villages such as Longwa, which straddles the international border, draw visitors from across India and beyond.
A Mon map poster shows a mountain town shaped entirely by its terrain: switchback roads, houses stepping down hillsides, and green valleys falling away on every side. Its lines are irregular and expressive. The sense of height comes through even in a flat, monochrome print, where the curves of the roads trace the contours of the land.
The main roads run along the crests and flanks of the hills, looping back on themselves as they climb, so the poster reads almost like a contour drawing.
Houses and lanes cluster where the slopes allow. This creates dense pockets separated by steep, empty ground rather than one continuous built-up area.
Deep green valleys surround the town on all sides. They leave wide open space on the map and show how high Mon sits above its surroundings.

Ko e ha Mon
For Konyak families and anyone from Mon District, a map of the town is a piece of home that travels well. For travellers who reached this remote corner of Nagaland, it is a record of a journey few people make.
You can change the title and subtitle, perhaps adding a village name or a festival year, and keep the coordinates line. The five styles are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir suits the dramatic hill roads particularly well.
