Mponela is a town in Dowa District in Malawi's Central Region, north of the capital, Lilongwe. It sits on the M1, the country's main north–south road. On a map, the highway is the town's spine: a strong line running through the centre, with market areas and shops along it and residential streets spreading out on either side.
