Murwāra is the urban centre of Katni district in Madhya Pradesh, and most people simply call the town Katni. The railway shapes its map more than anything else. Katni is one of the important junctions of central India, where lines from several directions meet. Its yards, sidings and curving tracks form a dense network at the heart of the town.
The Katni River runs past the town, and its meanders and banks give the plan a natural edge against the straight lines of the railway. Around the station, older commercial streets form a tight, irregular grid. Newer residential colonies spread outward along the main roads, and beyond them the land opens into farmland and the quarried ground around the town.
The district is known for limestone and for lime and cement production, industries that depend on the same rail links that define the town. A Murwāra map poster turns this working landscape into a clean composition of tracks, river and streets. It is a clear portrait of a place most travellers know only as a station name.
Several railway lines meet at Katni and fan out again. Large yards and branching tracks create one of the most intricate patterns on the map.
The river winds past the town and adds a soft, curving line that contrasts with the geometry of the railway and the main roads.
Close to the station, older commercial streets are packed tightly together. This is the densest part of the town before it thins out into residential colonies.
