Ko e mape
Ninohe lies in the far north of Iwate, where the Mabechi River runs through a valley between wooded hills. Seen from above, the town follows the river. Streets fill the flatter ground on its banks, bridges link the two sides, and the built-up area thins quickly wherever the slopes begin to rise.
The Tohoku Shinkansen stops here, and its line runs across the map as a firm, straight element against the looser shapes of the valley. Ninohe is best known in Japan for urushi. The surrounding district, around the former village of Jōbōji, produces most of the country's domestically harvested lacquer, which is tapped from trees grown on these hillsides.
A Ninohe map poster shows a town working with its terrain rather than against it. The river curves, the settlement follows, and the empty forested ground around it gives the whole composition a lot of space. It is a quiet image of rural northern Japan, with a craft tradition behind it.
The river winds through the centre of the frame, and the town's streets pack into the flat land along its banks. Bridges mark the points where the two halves meet.
The high-speed railway crosses the valley in a clean, confident line, a clear modern contrast to the older lanes and the curving river beside it.
The wooded slopes around the town appear as open space on the map. The same hills support the urushi trees behind Ninohe's reputation for lacquerware.

Ko e ha Ninohe
For people with roots in northern Iwate, or anyone who collects Japanese lacquerware, Ninohe is a meaningful place to put on a wall. The river-valley layout is calm and legible, and it works well in small rooms and hallways.
Add your own title, subtitle or coordinates line, perhaps in Japanese romanisation or with a date that matters to you. Pick one of five styles. Noir recalls the deep black of urushi, while Classic black & white keeps the valley precise.
