Nizwá lies in Oman's interior, where wadis come down from the Hajar Mountains onto a gravel plain. From above, the town divides into two clear textures: the dense, irregular old quarter and its palm gardens, and newer districts laid out along wide roads. The oasis shows up as a solid mass of greenery, watered for centuries by aflaj, the traditional channels that carry water from springs and wadis.
At the centre stands Nizwa Fort, built in the seventeenth century under the Ya'ariba dynasty, with a massive round tower that dominates the skyline. Next to it, the souq occupies a cluster of low buildings where traders sell dates, silverwork and pottery, and a weekly livestock market gathers on Friday mornings. Nizwá once served as Oman's capital and remains an important religious and scholarly centre.
A Nizwá map poster shows how tightly the old town, fort and gardens fit together, and how the modern road network grows outward from them. To the north, the land rises toward Jebel Akhdar, and the mountains' folded terrain frames the oasis. It is a place where water, defence and trade are written clearly on the map.
The fort's great round tower sits right next to the souq. On the map it anchors the densest cluster of lanes, the historic heart of the town.
Date gardens fed by aflaj spread around the old quarter. Their narrow paths and plot boundaries form a fine, irregular pattern that contrasts with the straight modern roads.
Dry riverbeds wind through and around the town, carrying floods after rare storms. They cut soft, braided lines through the urban fabric and frame the oasis.

Ko e ha Nizwá
Nizwá is one of the most recognisable towns in Oman, and its map tells the oasis story clearly: water brought down from the mountains, gardens around a fortress, a market at the centre. It makes a thoughtful gift for anyone who has lived, studied or travelled there.
Personalise the title and subtitle, in English or Arabic, and edit the coordinates line. Try the Sand style for a warm desert tone, or Classic black & white for a graphic look. HD files cost $9, and matte prints can be ordered with a wooden frame.
