Ko e mape
Nova Iguaçu is one of the largest cities in the Baixada Fluminense, the lowland north-west of Rio de Janeiro. From above it appears as a broad, fine-grained expanse of residential streets laid out on flat ground, broken by rivers, rail lines and major highways. To the north the urban fabric ends abruptly at the forested slopes of the Tinguá mountains, protected as a biological reserve.
The city grew around the railway, and its centre still clusters around the station, from where commuter trains run toward central Rio. Over the twentieth century former orange groves gave way to housing, producing the dense patchwork of blocks seen today. On the southern side, the Gericinó massif rises as another green block, part of which forms a municipal nature park.
A Nova Iguaçu map poster shows this contrast clearly: the busy grid of the plain, the straight line of the railway, the long course of the Via Dutra highway, and the empty green spaces of the hills on either side. In monochrome, the city's scale and the texture of its neighbourhoods come through with surprising elegance.
The commuter line to Rio runs through the heart of the city, a straight, continuous stroke around which the central district and its commerce developed.
The protected forest of Tinguá covers the northern hills, appearing on the map as a large, calm space with only a few roads reaching into it.
To the south, the Gericinó hills interrupt the suburban grid with a green mass, marking the boundary between Nova Iguaçu and neighbouring parts of the metropolitan area.

Ko e ha Nova Iguaçu
For people from the Baixada, Nova Iguaçu is home rather than a stop on a tourist route, and a map of its streets is a way of honouring that. The print works well as a gift for family members who have moved away.
You can write your own title and subtitle, set the coordinates line and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Printed posters on matte paper are shipped from print partners in more than 30 countries, with an optional wooden frame.
